eBay: 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII With Sliding Doors

The Lincoln Mark VIII might not be one of our favourite cars, actually quite the opposite; however, this particular Mark VIII has something that caught our attention: sliding doors! It might be far from being a BMW Z1 but we’re sure that you’ll cause the same commotion. According to the eBay seller, this one-off prototype was commissioned by Ford and designed by Joalto Design Inc. near Detroit. The seller says that there is no documentation to substantiate the claims above since the executives wanted all evidence destroyed. -Follow the jump to check out our video and see the sliding doors in action

Lincoln MKR Concept – Time's up for the official… unveiling

FoMoCo kept its word on the official… unveiling date of the Lincoln MKR concept that’ll make its public debut at the Detroit Show. But enough with the nagging lets go straight to the point. While it’s more than uncertain whether it’ll wriggle its way into production, the MKR expresses Lincoln’s future design strategy and premieres a new engine family called “TwinForce”.

Starting off with its design, Lincoln’s 4door-coupe concept showcases the visual elements that will influence a new generation of Lincoln products. According to Peter Horbury, executive director, Design, The Americas, there are seven key exterior cues, which will define modern Lincolns so take a few minutes to check them out:

  • Clean, uncluttered surfaces
  • Powerful, dynamic beltline
  • Chamfered surface running parallel to the beltline
  • Distinctive Lincoln bow-wave, double-wing grille opening
  • Thin, horizontal taillamps that run from one side to the other
  • Significant C-pillar smoothly transitioning into the cantilevered roof, and
  • Powerful cantrail/roofrail

Interior-wise, the MKR is simple but elegant looking. Lincoln says that they used environmentally friendly amenities but knowing Horbury’s past work at Volvo, we’d call your attention on the design of the centre console.

Last but not least the MKR’s powerplant. Dubbed TwinForce, it will power production versions of a range of future Ford and Lincoln products. TwinForce uses direct injection technology and turbocharging. Sound familiar? Of course it does, just think VW Group and its TFSI motors.

Specifically, the MKR receives a 3.5 V6 turbocharged engine that delivers 415 Hp and 400 pound-feet of torque. The MKR’s engine also is flex fuel capable, providing the driver with the flexibility to switch back and forth between gasoline and E-85 ethanol. The engine is mated to a 6speed transmission.

Lincoln MKR– 415 Hp, twin-turbocharged, rear-wheel drive Detroit concept

Here’s a double “cheerio” for our beloved subscriber of Car & Driver. He already scanned the C-XF Concept images from the 2007 Feburary issue of the mag, so it was only logical that he’d do the same with Lincoln’s Detroit Show Concept.

Judging from the scanned pics, the MKR’s dramatic 4door-coupe looks will surely arouse the interest of a lot of people in the Detroit Show where it will make its premiere. According to the writer of the article, the MKR is based on stretched version (by 5.8 inches) of the Mustangs platform but instead of a solid rear axle, it receives a multilink independent rear suspension. The MKR is powered by a twin-turbocharged version of Ford’s 3.5 V6 Duratec engine that sends 415 Hp to the rear wheels.

PS: Would the kind Car & Driver subscriber please scan pics of the MKR’s Detroit Counterpart, the Interceptor?

Pimp of the Day: Lincoln Town Car Limo fully equipped with Rolls Royce body kit and chandeliers

I don’t know about you but to me this Lincoln looks more like a pimped limo that jumped out of a Thunderbird’s movie than a “tranny” Rolls Royce Phantom. It gets even better though. Once you pass the initial shock of its exterior looks scroll down and get ready for a second surprise that’s no other than the sassy chandeliers in the interior! Unfortunately the company that owns this gem (Bergenlimo) decided to retire this graceful and elegantly re-styled Town Car Limo putting it up for sale on e-bay for a mere 25.100 USD. Lincoln MKS production edition confirmed

Leaving aside its latest problems, Ford stepped up on its "boldmove" motto confirming that it will put the Lincoln MKS in production. Based on the concept vehicle first shown at the North American International Auto Show in January the MKS is expected to hit Lincoln dealers sometime next year.

Press Release: "The Lincoln MKS will take Lincoln craftsmanship and comfort beyond anything we’ve built before," said Mark Fields, Ford Motor Company Executive Vice President and President of The Americas. "Its design communicates power, motion and speed, and it will be packed with more technology and features than any Lincoln before."

One new technology on the Lincoln flagship comes straight from Ford racing and the Ford GT: a capless fuel filler. It eliminates the inconvenience of forgetting to put the gas cap back on after refueling and is better for the environment because no gas fumes escape.

"Capless fuel filling will make its way throughout our lineup going forward, and it’s the result of listening to customers," Fields said. "We know even small innovations deliver big customer benefits."

The Lincoln MKS will be the next major step in establishing Lincoln as America's luxury brand. Lincoln is building momentum - with retail sales up 8 percent for the first half of 2006. The new Lincoln MKS flagship is designed to continue to introduce a new face of Lincoln to the American public, building on the hallmarks of design, a business class experience and a smooth, confident ride.
