Scooped: Peugeot 308 CC & 308 SW?

With the all-new Peugeot 308 officially introduced less than a week ago, we were quite surprised today when one of our readers pointed out to us a couple of images featuring the upcoming 308 CC and 308 SW that were posted on a French site called “Forum-Auto”. But are the pictures for real or are they work of a talented photoshop artist?

To begin with, all three images -308 hatch, 308 CC and 308 SW, appear to have been “scooped” during a photo shoot and a first verdict says they’re bona fide. However, a closer look at the 308 CC reveals a few details that don’t quite fit. Most importantly there’s the windshield; it seems like it’s twisted. Then there’s the wheels -compare the size of the front wheel with the rear. On the other hand, we couldn’t find any flaws on the 308 SW image -it looks rather real to us. Follow the jump to see the 308 SW and tell us what you think.

Props to Miguel for the tip!

Peugeot 308 Official Release "Part Deux" – 3d Version Included

And this time, it’s for real; no cryptic press releases and teaser images… Due to be launched in Europe this September right after its Frankfurt Show worldwide premiere, Peugeot’s new C-Segment hatch will be available with a broad range of powerplants, including 1.4, 1.6, 1.6 Turbo petrol units producing 95, 120 and 140-150Hp respectively and 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesel engines delivering between 90 and 136Hp. In comparison with its predecessor, while the 308 maintains the same wheelbase (2.610 mm) it’s 74mm longer (4.276 mm) and 85mm wider (1.815 mm) promising to boost interior space.

This year, we’ll only see the 3door and 5door versions of the 308 however, according to Peugeot, the C-Segment model will evolve into a number of different body shapes over the coming months and years which translates into a 308 CC (Coupe-Cabrio), a 308 SW and maybe even a 308 Sedan. The French company states that we’ll see a “BioFlex” petrol model (enabling the car to be driven with a fuel composed of up to 85 percent ethanol) in 2008 while they note that the 308 could also one day benefit from Peugeot’s HDi Hybrid technology. -Full high-res image gallery after the jump

Just for the record, we avoided adding the 72-page long PDF file preferring to post Peugeot UK’s condensed version of the press release.

PEUGEOT 308 – INSIGHT INTO A NEW MODEL

  • To be launched in September 2007
  • Powered by seven engine options
  • Class leading aerodynamics
  • 1.6 litre HDi 90 emits only 120 g/km of CO2
  • The start of a new “3” series family

Peugeot’s first vehicle of the “8” generation, the Peugeot 308 five door hatchback will be launched in the UK in September.

Designed by Peugeot’s in-house designers, the Peugeot 308 builds on the successful concept of the Peugeot 307, with its semi-high architecture, large interior space, class leading safety equipment and high standards of road holding.

The stylish design not only looks good but contributes to reducing fuel consumption and emissions, due to its class leading aerodynamics – Cx of 0.29 – enabling the 1.6 litre HDi 90 to emit only 120 g/km of CO2.

The Peugeot 308 will be available with 10 powerplant options:

Petrol engines *VTi – Variable valve lift and Timing and injection

  • 1.4 litre VTi* 95 bhp - 5-speed manual gearbox
  • 1.6 litre VTi* 120 bhp - 5-speed manual gearbox
  • 1.6 litre VTi* 120 bhp - 4-speed automatic gearbox
  • 1.6 litre THP 150 bhp - 5-speed manual gearbox
  • 1.6 litre THP 140 bhp - 4-speed automatic gearbox

HDi Diesel engines

  • 1.6 litre HDi 90 bhp - 5-speed manual gearbox
  • 1.6 litre HDi 110 bhp - 5-speed manual gearbox
  • 1.6 litre HDi 110 bhp - 6-speed controlled manual gearbox
  • 2.0 litre HDi 136 bhp - 6-speed manual gearbox
  • 2.0 litre HDi 136 bhp - 6-speed automatic gearbox

Safety is another strength of the new Peugeot 308, with seven airbags fitted as standard; even rear side airbags will be available as an option on 5 door models. Peugeot’s lane departure warning system (LDWS) and bi-xenon directional headlamps will also be available.

The increased size compared to the 307 results in greater interior space and carrying capacity. The boot of the 308 is cleverly laid out to maximise the space which, with the parcel shelf in place provides 430 litres, increasing to 1,398 litres with the seats folded.

The Peugeot 308 will evolve into a number of different body shapes over the coming months and years, and will see a “BioFlex” petrol model introduced. It could also one day benefit from Peugeot’s HDi Hybrid technology.

The Peugeot 308 will go on sale in the UK in September 2007; price and specification details will be announced nearer the launch date.

Peugeot 308 Official Announcement

“The New Peugeot 308 Announced: The Peugeot 308 hatchback will be launched in Europe in the autumn; it will replace the 307 hatchback, which has been an important car in the Peugeot range with worldwide sales exceeding 3,000,000. It will be produced in France, at the production sites of Sochaux and Mulhouse and will be available in three and five door versions. The 308 will also be a very environmentally friendly vehicle”

Talk about a Spartan press release… Is it me or does Peugeot seem pissed off cause three out of the four pictures they released today have been circulating in the internet the past few weeks? I mean, they didn’t even inform us, when or where, the 308 will make its global debut! Mon dieu...-Continued below

Peugeot 308 CC Rendering

With the all-new Peugeot 308 compact hatch programmed to be unveiled in a few days from now -we mean official presentation as we’ve already showed you a set of leaked pictures, artists are concentrating their photoshop’s attention on the upcoming hardtop convertible version. This particular CGI looks like its pretty close to what we’ll see in 2008 when Peugeot takes the wraps off its second-generation mid-size 2+2 CC that’ll succeed the 307 CC. As with the 207 CC, we suspect that the French carmaker will unveil a near-to-production concept at the 2007 Geneva Show (March) of the 308 CC before its official debut at next year’s Paris Show in September. Peugeot 308: First Official Pictures!

These are the first official pictures of Peugeot’s brand new compact hatch, the 308 which will succeed the 307 in the French carmaker’s range. Its design, which combines styling elements from the 207, the 407 and its predecessor, the 307, comes to no surprise as we’ve already had the chance to see various uncamouflaged prototypes on the road the past weeks. Still, as we’ve already noted before, we expected something more than a bloated 207 from Peugeot.

While the 308’s designers followed the same path in the interior borrowing most of the 207’s design elements, thanks to minor variations like the Italian-styled circular air-vents and the different climate controls, it actually looks distinct to the untrained eye. The pictures might be official; however, the car hasn’t been announced by Peugeot. Meaning, no official info rmation -yet(...). From what our sources told us though, the new Golf sized Pug will be available with the 207's new 120Hp 1.6 and 150 & 170 Hp 1.6 Turbo engines with sales starting this autumn.

Video: 2008 Peugeot 308 Caught On Tape

Or rather un-taped as the 308 shown on this amateur video has no sign of camouflage. We guess it won’t be long till Peugeot breaks out the first official images of their new VW Golf contender as the guy driving the Pug didn’t seem to care much for our nosy spy in the neighboring car. Besides, we’ve already seen a whole bunch of images of the 308 varying from commercial shots in South Africa to completely uncovered prototypes in Europe. -Check out the Video after the jump

2008 Peugeot 308 Snapped Totally Uncovered

Let down. That’s how we feel after seeing the first totally unmasked pictures of the upcoming Peugeot 308. If we didn’t know better we’d say that the car we’re looking at is nothing more than a 207 after a couple of nights on the Procrustean bed and an intermediate “butt to butt” contact with a Nissan Tiida. Judging from the images, we bet that most people will either pass the 308 for the current (facelifted) 307 or even a 207. Pity, cause design-wise, Peugeot had got off to a really good start with the latest 207 and 407s. –Continued after the jump

There are no official specs out, but expect the 308 to be offered among others, with BMW-PSA Peugeot-Citroen’s jointly developed, 1.6 & 1.6 Turbo engines delivering 120 to 170 HP. The new 308 will be officially unveiled at the September Frankfurt Motor Show with the CC and Station Wagon/Break versions following in late 2008 - early 2009.
