2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible

Following up on our weekend post concerning the Lexus IS Coupe-Cabrio, here’s another interesting proposition for a mid-sized, 2+2 convertible, this time based on the Infiniti G37 / Nissan Skyline Coupe. As with the IS Coupe-Cabrio CGI (Computer Generated Image), the G37 Convertible rendering was scanned from, an unknown this time, Japanese car magazine. Again, we have no confirmation –official or unofficial, that Nissan/Infiniti is actually preparing an open top version of its G35/Skyline Coupe, but we definitely find it interesting and we can’t think of a reason why Nissan shouldn’t go ahead and produce a model like this. Nissan manages 1.024 km / 636 miles with a 225Hp Skyline on one gas tank …

No, this isn’t an early April Fools Day hoax; Nissan actually came out in public and announced that a team of… extra light-footed product development experts managed to cover 1,024.4 kilometers – 636 miles on one gas tank with a 2006 225Hp strong Skyline. The eight test-drivers or rather ninja-riders… who took part experiencing a variety of driving conditions including traffic jams from rush-hour congestion and construction-works had an average fuel consumption of 16.3km-per-liter or 38,3 mpg or 6,1-liters per 100 km. PRESS RELEASE: NEW NISSAN SKYLINE HITS 1,000KM ON ONE TANK OF FUEL

- Skyline's V6 engine combines fuel efficiency with high-performance driving -

TOKYO (March 23, 2007) -- Nissan engineers set out to prove a point - that the new Skyline sedan could go 1,000 kilometers on one tank of fuel. The challenge - that this would be accomplished on real roads with unpredictable traffic and weather conditions and with different drivers. The so-called 'eco-driving challenge was conducted by a team of product development experts on the roads from Tochigi to Kanagawa. The 2.5-liter Skyline model driven was powered by the VQ25HR V6 engine, capable of generating 225 horsepower and 26.8kgm of torque.

The team succeeded in covering an impressive distance of 1,024.4 kilometers with an average fuel consumption rate of 16.3km-per-liter. The main objective of the eco-driving challenge was to promote greater awareness of Nissan's advanced fuel-economy technology as well as demonstrate the efficiency of the new VQ engine under real-world driving conditions.

The 1,000km drive took place on Friday, March 16, 2007, with a team of eight test-drivers under the Nissan Performance Innovation Task Team (PITT). The team started the drive from the test course at Nissan's Tochigi Plant at 3:30a.m. under pre-dawn skies. The Skyline drove through the Tohoku Expressway, Tomei Expressway, and Meishin Expressway with Kyoto as the turnaround point, and arrived safely at the finish line at the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi at 8.54p.m., nearly 17.5 hours later on the same day.

The team experienced a variety of driving conditions including traffic jams from rush-hour congestion and construction-works, but the automatic fuel-warning alert never activated throughout the 1000km drive.

Introduced in November, 2006, the new Skyline delivers a unique fusion of high-performance, styling and comfort in an advanced sports sedan. The Nissan Technical Center (Okatsukoku, Atsugi-shi, Kanagawa Prefecture) is Nissan's primary center for research and development in product development and manufacturing technologies.

Tokyo Auto Salon: Nissan Skyline Aero Concept

The 2007 Tokyo Auto Salon is alive and kicking out quite a few interesting concepts even though we’re lost in translation… Anyhows, Nissan came up with the Skyline Aero Concept fitted with a “master-blaster” bodykit, 20’’ rims and umm, that’s about all that we can say for the Japanese version of the Infiniti G Sedan until Nissan kindly decides to share an English press release with us.

2008 Nissan Skyline GT-R Video

I’m not sure if you’ve seen this video, but if you haven’t here’s your chance! Apart from the fact that the Skyline GT-R is relatively thinly disguised, leaving all the juicy details open, the video contains excellent footage from test runs in Nurburgring, Germany where we have the chance to hear some GT-R “turbo-music”. Although it’s unclear whether will unveil the next generation Skyline GT-R in Detroit, according to a previous press release, sales will start in Japan in fall 2007, followed by the U.S. and Canada in spring 2008. 2008 Νissan Skyline – 12th Generation

Ok, it may not be the Skyline that we’ve all been waiting for –the GT-R is due next year, but nevertheless, important, as Nissan’s mid-size sedan has its own fanatic audience in the Japanese market. So, what’s new here? Well, just about everything as according to Nissan, the 12th generation Skyline, features all-new exterior and interior designs, a next generation FR-L platform and a newly developed VQ35HR V6 engine. Dimension wise, overall height is 20mm lower and overall width is 20mm wider than its V35 predecessor.

The Skyline is powered by the newly developed VQ35HR and VQ25HR V6 engines. The 3.5L version generates 315 horsepowers and 36.5kgm of torque and is capable of revving up to 7500rpm, while the 2.5L generates 225 horsepowers and 26.8 kgm of torque. The powerplant is matched to a 5speed automatic transmission with adaptive shift. A new DS mode allows for more spirited driving by optimizing gear selection for various driving conditions.

Also, unique to the Skyline is as what Nissan refers to as, the world’s first four-wheel active steering system, which adjusts the steering angles of the front and rear wheels in accordance with driving speeds and steering operation, allowing for greater control at low and medium speeds, and smooth effortless cruising at higher speeds. It is optional on SP and S series.Finally, the new Skyline is equipped with larger 18" (sports models) and 17" (standard models) alloys. In the sport models, it is equipped with different sized front (225/50R) and rear (245/45R) tires.

Nissan Skyline Coupe / Infinit G35 Coupe Black X Metal : DAM(N)D Aston Martin's

Remember the Mazda MX-5 / Miata, Aston Martin look-alike called the AMX07 ? Well, here's another company who seems to think that there are a lot of folks out there who love to give an Aston Martin look to their car as Japanese tuner DAMD just released a new bodykit called "Black X Metal" with a... British flair for the Nissan Skyline Coupe / Infinity G35 Coupe models.

Luckily though, the DAMD bodykit doesn't go all the way like the AMX07 does, as the facelift concentrates on the front part of the car and not the whole body. The "Aston Martin" inspired snout is also available from DAMD for the Nissan 350Z & the Mazda MX-5 / Miata models (click pictures bellow). via : Autoblog

Nissan presents its new-generation VQ 2.5 & 3.5 litre V6 Engines - the all new Skyline will get them first in autumn

Twelve years and 5.5 million units after its introduction in 1994, Nissan announced that its award winning VQ engine is heading for retirement. But don't you Nissan fans get all worried as the Renault's brother-in-arms simultaneously presented it's VQ successor that will be available in 2.5 & 3.5 litre forms.

Although Nissan doesn't give us any information on the engines output, it is expected that the VQ35 will produce over 300 Hp. The 3.5L VQ35HR and 2.5L VQ25HR engines will be built at Nissan's Iwaki Plant in Fukushima Prefecture and will equipped the all-new Skyline to be released this autumn in Japan, as well as the US where the model is sold as the Infiniti G35. Later the engines will find their place in other Infiniti and Nissan models such as the 350Z, the Murano, the FX etc.

Featuring newly designed engine blocks and other key components, the engines promise to offer smooth transition to top-in-class level engine speed of 7.500 rpm. According to Nissan, the new VQ engines achieve a 10% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to vehicles equipped with the existing VQ engine and top-in-class Super Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle level emissions. SU-LEVs have 75% or less nitrogen oxide (NOx) and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions than those stipulated by Japan's 2005 exhaust emission standards.
