This is exactly why I love the Sema Show; it’s like going to a toyshop for grown kids. I mean, where else would you find a mid-engine car with a Corvette Sting Ray body that’s powered by a twin-turbocharged Chevrolet LS V8 unit delivering a whopping 1000Hp? Thanks to our blog-pals at Jalopnik we not only have the info but we also have the first images of the V7 Super Coupe that’s being readied by American Super Car for this year’s Sema Show in Via: Jalopnik
Insane; crazy; audacious; hazardous; call it whatever you want but we’re totally sucked into this conversion that concerns squeezing a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette drivetrain into a… 1996 Honda Civic hatchback! To make a long story short, in order to get his mind off his divorce, this guy decided to spend some time on two written off vehicles that were laying around his garage. Like a modern King Solomon, he decided to cut his babies into two and make something never before seen: a rear-wheel drive Honda Civette V8 LS1. Even though the task seems impossible, he’s determined to complete it without spending a buck. Undeniably, the most intriguing part of the conversion is the engine that has to be fitted far back. The controversial owner says he used the entire Corvette drivetrain -front suspension, steering, rear suspension minus the subframe. What tops it all is the fact that he’s trying to fit several elements from the Vette’s interior into the Civic’s cabin! Utterly crazy and we love it. We vaguely remember the plot of the '99 comedy "Mystery Men" starring Ben Stiller but the 1979 Corvette Limo that we found on e-bay definitely rang a bell. In the movie, the stretched Vette served as the super-villain’s (Casanova Frankenstein played by Geoffrey Rush) personal car. The Vette’s transformation included extending the frame to over 23 feet (7 meters) total length and modifying the interior by adding two more opposing seats, bar, lights, and rear T-tops. Before its procrustean metamorphosis, the limo started its life as a 1979 3rd-generation Corvette fitted with an 185Hp strong 350c.i. V8 motor and an automatic transmission. Could have fooled us. We don’t know how the car looks in person, but judging from the pictures of the “Vipette” we found on ebay, this chap did one hell of a job in transforming an ’85 Vette into a Viper. Now, why someone would actually go and do something like this, beats us. However, the ebay seller claims, “This car looks, feels, and sounds just like the real thing for about a third of the price and half the gas. Here’s your chance to get both worlds; Chevy’s reliability and the Viper’s great looks”. Say again? -Image Gallery after the jump
