Alfa Romeo 159 GTA Scoop

Here we go again… In this new episode of the Alfa Romeo 159 GTA saga, Swedish magazine AMS obtained two new scoop images of the Italian sports sedan. We won’t start bullshitting you with you with Ferrai/Maserati engine stories etc, because to be honest, and as we’ve previously noted on Carscoop, we have no official or unofficial confirmation that Alfa is actually working on a 159 GTA. For all we know, the Italians could be just testing a new engine.

However, for the sake of conversation, if the car pictured here is a test-bed for an upcoming GTA version of the 159, we think we’ll agree with the guys at AMS who are talking about an upgraded version of Alfa’s 3.2-liter V6 unit pumping out more than 300Hp. Maybe even more as Autodelta has proved with the Alfa 147 GTA AM Super. The latter wears the same 3.2-liter V6 petrol unit, with enlarged capacity to 3.7-liters and an supercharger lifting power to 422Hp.

Alfa Romeo's Official Product Plan Reveals Details On Junior, 149 & GTA Models

Last Tuesday, during the 10th Morgan Stanley Automotive Conference in London, Alfa Romeo’s CEO Antonio Baravalle revealed official details and technical specifications on the Italian carmaker’s future portfolio. For those of you who have been “stalking” Carscoop for a while, you’ll probably remember that last year, in a similar gathering, Fiat Group unveiled the 2008–2010 product plans for all three makes of the Group (Alfa, Fiat & Lancia). In Alfa Romeo’s case, what’s new here is that we get details about the forthcoming Junior and 149 models.

So let’s see what Alfa Romeo has in store for us. Beginning from the Junior, Alfa’s “MINI killer will go on sale in the second quarter of 2008 with a starting price of 16.000.- $21.800. Based on the B-Segment Fiat Grande Punto,” the Junior will be available with a variety of engines, from an entry-level 95Hp unit (Fiat’s 1.4-liter 16v) to a 230Hp top-notch version wearing the GTA badge. All Juniors get a standard 6-speed gearbox with an automatic transmission being offered optionally. As you can seen on Alfa’s official sketches, the premium sport hatch’s design is inspired from the extravagant 8c Competizione. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below

Following the Junior, in the first quarter of 2009 Alfa Romeo will present the successor to its 147 C-Segment hatch that will most probably be called 149. Designed to compete against the likes of Audi’s A3 and BMW’s 1-Series hatch, the 4.3m long 149 will use an evolution of the
Fiat Bravo platform featuring a multi-link rear suspension and Active Roll Control. In the engine department Alfa say’s that the 149 will be offered with several powetrains starting from a base 120Hp unit (Fiat’s 1.4-litre T-Jet) up to 265Hp (Alfa’s 3.2 V6) for the GTA version. Transmission options include a standard 6-speed gearbox and an automatic. Like the Junior (though less aggressive), the 149’s design takes several design cues from the 8c Competizione.

All well? Mmm, I’d definitely say no, because I nearly had a heart attack upon viewing the 149’s basic price tag: €28.000 or…$38.200! For the love of God Alfa, that’s BMW 3-Series territory! Even if you get everything right -which I seriously, seriously doubt judging from the Fiat Group’s latest product portfolio (…), who the hell will give €28.000 for a 120Hp 1.4-litre 149 when you can get a 160Hp Audi A3 1.8TFSI for much less? Tell me that was a typo mistake, please…

Crazy but anyway, before we close this post lets see the other two products that Alfa’s readying for 2009/2010. Alfa 169: think of it as something like a “poor-man” Maserati Quattroporte. The sporty 4-sedan will cost between €40.000 to 55.000 ($54k to 75k) but it remains unknown whether it will get a FWD, 4WD or RWD biased platform –yeah right… Second up the CXover, Alfa’s first ever SUV that will be available in the first quarter of 2010. Unlike the Junior, the CXover will be (?) priced logically at €28.000 to 45.000 ($38k to 61k).

Alfa Unveils The 159 Turismo Internazionale In the UK

Alfa Romeo UK announced it’s extending the 159 range with the addition of the sporty TI versions. Short for Turismo Internazionale, the TI badged Alfa 159 line-up benefits from a body kit, lowered sports suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, red Brembo brake callipers all-round, plus chrome effect door mirrors and exhaust which make the lustful Italian sedan simply irresistible. UK buyers can choose among three exterior paintjobs: Alfa Red, Stromboli Grey and Carbonio black. Having seen them all, Carscoop undoubtedly votes for the Alfa Red. -Continued: Click “Read More…” after the jump

Inside the TI models boast electrically adjustable and heated leather front sports seats along with new sports dials, aluminium sports pedals, kick plates and trim inserts. A leather-clad sports steering wheel and gear knob are also included in the sporty specification list. Fiat 1.9 JTD M: New Twin Stage Turbo Diesel Engine Available With 180 & 191Hp

Fiat Group presented the latest development of its 120 & 150Hp 1.9 JTD M diesel engine used in a variety of Fiat, Alfa Romeo and GM Group models. The revised version of Fiat Group’s 1.9-liter diesel engine that features twin stage turbo technology will be offered in two versions: one with 180Hp (132 kW), available to customers outside the Fiat Group, as well as Fiat Group brands, and a higher performance 191Hp (140 kW) version, which will remain the preserve of the Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia brands. The answer to the question whether the 2008 Saab 9-3’s new 180Hp 1.9 TTDi has anything to do with Fiat Group’s new 1.9 JTD M is yes. (photo 2.4 JTD M) -Continued after the jump

Compared to existing 1.9 litre JTD M (MultiJet) engines, low end torque has been improved by 50 per cent, with 300 Nm (221 lb ft) available from just 1250 rpm. This performance upgrade has been achieved through the introduction of advanced turbocharging technology together with design changes to increase the thermostructural resistance that allows increased peak cylinder pressure up to 180 bar and exhaust gas temperatures up to 800°C.

According to Fiat, two stage turbocharging enables the new engine to combine the instant low speed response and the elimination of ‘turbo lag’ provided by a small turbocharger, while the second stage offers the ‘deep breathing’ provided by a large turbocharger. Essentially, a small turbocharger operates at low RPM for optimal bottom end torque and response from low vehicle speed. This small turbo is by-passed when the required power output increases, and a second turbocharger of a larger size comes into operation.

Besides the improvement in overall performance, TST technology allows an increase in the exhaust gas recirculation rate without fuel consumption penalties, and therefore providing a significant reduction in NOx emissions.

Thus, the engine complies with projected Euro 5 emission standards. This target has been achieved thanks to:

  • Reduction of the compression ratio from 17.5 to 16.5 and the adoption of low-voltage metallic glow plugs
  • Improved EGR cooler (with by-pass) and EGR valve adoption on Lambda sensor with DPF
  • New inlet port design

Production of the new engine will start in July this year, beginning with the 132 kW (180Hp) version. The 140 kW (191Hp) version is to be launched in June 2008.

Scoop: Alfa Romeo 159 GTA ?

Could Alfa Romeo be preparing a successor to the 156 GTA? Mmm, tough one. According to our official and unofficial (off the record) information, Alfa isn’t planning to present a GTA version of the 159 -well, not at least before 2010. But then, what’s the case with these “scoop” photos from Italian website Infomotori? If you’re asking us, we’re not seeing anything more than stock 159 with side air-vents, slightly differentiated front bumper and “Toys R’ Us” type boot spoiler. However, according to Infomotori these spy shots preview the upcoming 159 GTA that will combine a 4WD system with a Ferrari/Maserati derived 400Hp V8 engine. Alfa Romeo Motorcycle With A 4-Cylinder Boxer Engine!

From time to time we like crossing over to the wonderful world of two-wheels. Sometimes we’re lucky enough to stumble upon really weird creations like the 3wheeler Mercedes SLK or the Alfa bike you’re seeing here that attempt to mix characteristics from both worlds -cars and motorcycles. Not always with the same success apparently. While there’s no info on the heavily modified bike, it seems to be wearing a 4cylinder Alfa Romeo boxer motor combined with some parts that look to have come from a BMW motorcycle boxer engine. -More pictures after the jump

Autodelta to present 422 bhp 147 GTA AM 3.7 Super at SpaItalia this weekend

Autodelta is pleased to announce that it will be present with a comprehensive line up of its high-performance bespoke Alfa Romeo models at SpaItalia this coming weekend (2-3 June) at the famous Spa-Francorchamps Grand Prix circuit in Belgium. Attending this edition of SpaItalia is made even more special, this year Autodelta is celebrating its 20th anniversary as the leading engineering centre for developing the ultimate road-going Alfa Romeo high-performance cars.

Leading out the exclusive Autodelta model range at SpaItalia will be a first official showing for our most powerful interpretation of the Alfa 147 GTA theme yet: the 422 bhp Autodelta 147 GTA AM 3.7 Super. This new version further builds on the impressive upgrades we have already made to the Alfa V6 engine: capacity increased to 3,750cc, a remapped management system, and a Ferrari-derived throttle body, coupled to the fitting of a Rotrex C38-81 supercharger delivering 0.75 bar of boost; now all taken to a new even higher level - bringing the car’s maximum power up to 422 bhp at 7,000 rpm (standard Alfa 147 GTA power is 250bhp at 6,200 rpm) and torque improved to 520 Nm.

Autodelta created its first 3.7-litre supercharged Alfa 147 GTA conversion exactly two years ago, the car making its preview appearance on the inaugural ‘Autodelta European Tour’ of 2005. The arrival of this dramatic package, which initially had 400 bhp, created much attention and it was requested by a number of customers.

To perfect this package fully and develop a highly dynamic chassis capable of delivering all this performance and still offer optimum day-to-day driveability, our engineering team has embarked on an intensive development programme over the last six months that has also seen our test cars in track action conducting extensive R&D programmes of major race circuits including Donington Park, Silverstone and the Nürburgring. Additional work has been carried out on the Alfa V6 engine’s cylinder head, block and internals as we have perfected this package, while the upgraded suspension features new spring rates from the dedicated coilovers and revised suspension components, as well as new anti-roll bar, and wheel geometry, adjustments. Autodelta’s own in-house developed limited slip differential is an integral part. The bespoke package includes a new aerodynamic rear under wing.

We are now very pleased to introduce this full option, the Autodelta 147 GTA AM (‘Autodelta Maggiore’) 3.7 Super, as an official package available for immediate ordering. The car will be presented at SpaItalia this coming weekend and will be demonstrated on the famous 6.976-km Grand Prix circuit on both Saturday and Sunday by our test driver.

To complement the debut of the 422 bhp 3.7 litre version at the Spa circuit, which nestles in the glorious undulating hills of the Belgian Ardennes forest, we will present the 341 bhp Autodelta 147 GTA AM 3.2 Super. Also present at SpaItalia will be our most exciting new model introduction of the last year and a car that ushered in a new era at Autodelta, the 341 bhp Autodelta Brera J5 3.2 C. Previewed last summer in Monte Carlo and commercialised in February 2007 this high-performance bespoke car has created impressive worldwide demand already. Completing our current model range will be the 400bhp Autodelta 156 GTA AM 3.7 Super.

Jano Djelalian says: “SpaItalia is always an excellent event and we are especially looking forward to attending this year’s edition. We’re delighted to bring our full model range and in particular to present our most extreme project yet, the 422 bhp version of the Autodelta 147 GTA AM 3.7 Super. We always are keen to show our cars in the conditions they are designed for, so putting this car on track at Spa is the perfect official introduction.”

SpaItalia – now in its sixth edition – has quickly grown to become one of Europe’s leading Italian car extravaganzas. With the distinct ‘track’ element central to the two-day programme, the event showcases a glittering array of Italian machinery. It takes place on the evocative Spa-Francorchamps circuit. First opened in 1921, this is one of the world’s fastest and most demanding circuits, and a real test of driver ability. This year the ‘Featured Marque’ at SpaItalia is Maserati poignant as the Trident brand is celebrating the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Juan-Manuel Fangio’s F1 World Championship title claimed at the wheel of the legendary 250F. A highlight of the event will be the presence of Maria Teresa de Filippis the first woman to drive in an F1 Grand Prix and a lady who is synonymous with Maserati. The 2007 SpaItalia event is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, June 2 & 3.

Autodelta Alfa GT 3.7 Super 405Hp: Detailed Info & High Res Images

Autodelta has just released the full press pack of its most powerful interpretation of the Alfa GT up to date; the 405Hp GT 3.7 Super. We remind you that the British tuner teased us about the new GT last Friday, prior to the car’s public unveiling at the Spring Italian Car Day at the Brooklands Museum, UK.

In a nutshell, Autodelta increased the Alfa GT’s 3.2-litre engine’s capacity to 3,750cc revising or adding new components in the way like the new space-efficient Rotrex C38-81 centrifugal supercharger and the extensive cylinder head improvements. The 3.7-liter V6 boasts a maximum power of 405Hp at 6,800 rpm and 508 Nm (375 lb/ft) of torque at 4,800 rpm, enough to give the GT supercar-like performance figures: a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time of 4.9 seconds and a maximum speed of 293 km/h (182 mph). Comparatively, the stock GT Coupe V6’s top speed is 243 km/h while the 0-100 km/h time is 6.7 sec. -Check out all the details along with a high-res image gallery after the jump

11.05.2007 Autodelta present the world’s fastest Alfa GT – the 293 km/h 405 bhp Autodelta GT 3.7 Super

Autodelta is pleased to present for its world première the most dynamic and powerful version of the Alfa GT Coupé yet – the 405 bhp supercharged Autodelta GT 3.7 Super. With its top speed of 293 km/h (182 mph) and a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 4.9 seconds the Autodelta GT 3.7 Super offers the driver supercar level performance coupled with the car’s famous driveability and practicality.

Introduced four years ago, the Alfa GT Coupé, styled by famed historic Italian design house Bertone, is a gorgeous, sleek and very agile, yet at the same time truly practical, four-seat coupé which immediately won plaudits and awards as well as a loyal following worldwide: a true Alfa Romeo in every sense of the word. Now the new Autodelta GT 3.7 Super takes the GT Coupé theme to the ultimate performance level. It follows on from the market success of the firm’s previous work with the 3.2-litre Alfa GT model: the 320 bhp Autodelta GT 3.2 Super (2004) and the 341 bhp Autodelta GT 3.2 Super Evo version (2005), by raising the Alfa V6 engine and chassis package to even more extreme performance levels.

“Our customers continually push us forward, demanding ever more performance from Alfa Romeo models, and following the 3.2 Super and Evo versions we have had many requests to maximise the Alfa GT’s potential with a 3.7-litre supercharged version,” says Autodelta Managing Director Jano Djelalian. “We have a vast experience with the chassis of this car, and knew it was more than capable of handling the serious power and torque increases that would result from this project – and then transmitting them to the road in a useable and effective manner.”

The new car sees the Alfa GT’s 3.2-litre engine’s capacity increased to 3,750cc, and harnessed with the space-efficient Rotrex C38-81 centrifugal supercharger. The engine development includes extensive cylinder head improvements, new larger fuel injectors with revised spray patterns to optimise combustion and emissions, and a Ferrari-derived throttle body. The car also receives new tubular exhaust manifolds and a complete exhaust system specially designed for the requirements of this upgrade. The result, combined with further chassis, transmission and aerodynamic developments is earth shattering. The Autodelta GT 3.7 Super boasts maximum power of 405 bhp at 6,800 rpm and 508 Nm (375 lb/ft) of torque at 4,800 rpm. The standard Alfa GT 3.2 V6 by comparison offers 240 bhp and 300 Nm (221 lb/ft).

The new Autodelta GT 3.7 Super can reach a maximum speed of 293 km/h (182 mph) and boasts a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time of 4.9 seconds – blistering performance from what is a perfectly sorted car. (Standard Alfa GT Coupe V6 top speed is 243 km/h while the 0-100 km/h time is 6.7 seconds). The torque availability of the Alfa V6 engine – one of the most famous units in the brand’s almost century long history – is truly impressive, the power curve running smoothly from tickover to the redline at 7,400 rpm.

“The Arese-built Alfa V6 is an excellent engine,” says Jano, “we have more than twenty years of experience developing it to the maximum, and it quite simply responds to everything we want to do to it. The Alfa GT Coupé provides us with all the right ingredients to work with – in the engine and chassis area – and we are all delighted with the results we have achieved with the Autodelta GT 3.7 Super.”

The improvements made to the engine are complimented by extensive remapping to the ECU, while the front-wheel-drive car is able to effectively put the additional power down on the road through the incorporation of an Autodelta-developed and specially manufactured Limited Slip Differential (LSD). Autodelta also fit different gearbox ratios, depending on the customer’s specific requirements.

This is not just a very powerful machine for trackdays or special occasions, but an effective, practical car ready for day-to-day use, fully able to use all its 405 bhp and 508 Nm to enhance the owner’s sensory experience under all driving scenarios. Most Autodelta customers’ demand a high performance Alfa Romeo which is suitable every use, and Autodelta’s engineers regard it as their priority to fulfil this demand.

The Autodelta GT 3.7 Super comes with the enhanced aerodynamic package of the GT Super, including a deeper spoiler that supplies and optimises airflow to the intercooler. The rear bumper assembly incorporates a ‘diffuser’. Interior trim upgrades are optional, including Alcantara trim on the dashboard and panels, as well as bespoke leather packages.

The full Autodelta GT 3.7 Super package is now available for immediate ordering from the London factory or from our worldwide network of authorised dealers.
